In this podcast Greg Bitgood interviews Professor Randal Rauser on the issue of Consumerism and how it affects our children and our response as Christian Educators.
Hello fellow educators, I hope those of you that took time off had a great spring break. Welcome to podcast #13. I want to reminder you that we are still sending out free copies of my book, Disciplining this Generation for a Digital World, to anyone that sends us an email. I will have the details at the end of the podcast. Today and next week we will be featuring an interview I did with Professor Randal Rauser on the topic of consumerism and education. I believe this needs to become an important issue for us as Christian Educators. If you go back to my podcast on Dual Citizens I emphasized the truth that we are called to be discipling a generation of young people whose citizenship is first, not of this world. Perhaps one of the most difficult challenges we face when engaging our kids in a Christian mission and vocation is the response and call to materialism, that this the ideas and value we place around things. In this podcast Randal begins to define and highlight for us the challenges and dangers of growing up in a consumer based society. I would suggest to you the biggest challenge we have in raising our kids to have a missional mindset with this culture is the culture itself. How do we help them avoid the pitfalls of consumerism and materialism and yet live among this culture? Here is my interview with Professor Randal Rauser: Audio Only We will conclude this interview in next week’s podcast.
