Summer Repeat - We did a series of great Interviews with Sarah Bennett, Home School Consultant for Heritage Christian Online School. This is part 2 of 5. This podcast first aired Mar. 3rd, 2009.
Hello fellow educators, welcome to summer repeat podcast number 72. Today we will continue our conversation with Sarah Bennett, Home Educational Consultant for Heritage Christian Online School. Please don’t forget that we are still sending out free copies of my book, Discipling this Generation for a Digital World to any one that sends us an email. Details to follow at the end of the podcast. We have become, at Heritage Christian Schools, big stake holders in home education. We operate the biggest Distributed Learning School in British Columbia. There are 52 DL schools in the province, 10 of those are Independent schools. Last year the total number of full time students in DL was 14,866. Our school had 1119 full time students. This means that we have over 7.5% of all DL students in our school and this also represents one third of all Independent school DL students. These numbers do not reflect the cross enrolled students who are taking our courses and attending other schools. We served almost 800 students last year. This year we have grown to 1300 full time students and will serve over 1000 cross enrolled students. I don’t mean to gush, but keep in mind, that we were only four years old last year. The Lord has given us a place of leadership in our Province and especially within the Christian DL Schools. We are getting ready to host our forth BC Home Educators Convention. For the last three years we have gathered over 800 home schoolers and venders to Kelowna and we anticipate that this year will be even bigger. I am all for the big numbers if, and let me emphasize this as a big IF, if we are able to serve with a spirit of excellence and keep our passion for discipleship in the forefront. I attribute much of our amazing success both in numbers and quality to the advice and leadership of Sarah Bennett. She has been instrumental in our ability to understand, partner with and ultimately serve the home school community. Here is part two of our discussion about home schooling in British Columbia: Audio Only Thank you Sarah, next week we will begin to talk about home school philosophy and curriculum.
