104-It Takes a Village with Pastor David part 2 Print E-mail
Written by Greg Bitgood
In this podcast we bring part 2 of a message delivered to our Online School leadership from David Kalamen, Senior Pastor of Kelowna Christian Center. It is a very challenging and inspiring message for any Christian Educator.

Hello fellow educators welcome to podcast #104. "It takes a village to raise of child." Today is part two of three podcasts with Pastor David Kalamen, Senior Pastor of Kelowna Christian the Church responsible for Heritage Christian Schools. This is the message he brought to the leadership team of the Online School. David Kalamen is the founding Pastor of KCC which started 28 years ago. Since the Church began it has embraced the mandate of Christian Education and the discipleship of our children. The timing of this podcast brings the important role of the Church to our threefold cord of the village metaphor, home, church and school. I had a discussion with a friend a few months ago and he was very suspicious of the Church run school governance structure. He felt that the school would be marginalized and overshadowed by the Church or the opposite, the school becomes the poor forgotten ministry of the Church. In my experience with school governance over the last 15 years I would almost have to agree. Recently a friend of mine in South Africa had her school kicked out by the Church that started it four years before. Thankfully she was able to find another location and is still making a go of it. But I have also witnessed many schools taken over by the politics of a parent run or board run school. There are no easy answers and governance of any organization has its pitfalls because of the fallen nature of those involved in the institution. It hasn't been easy for us at Heritage. At times I have felt that our schools have been in the background of KCC from time to time. But then we have also been front and center at times when I would have preferred that we were not the focus. What has always been true about our Church is the commitment to the discipleship of our children. This commitment starts with our Senior leader and goes all the way to our average congregant at KCC. Pastor David and the Church has also been careful not to micro manage the schools. They have installed me, Pastor of Christian Education, my Church title, to give oversight on behalf of the Church and we have been the recipients of their trust, their resources, their vision and their inclusion into the life of this dynamic body. I am a believer of the Church run school because I have been a part of this very successful endeavour we call Heritage. Here is part two of my pastor, boss and friend, David Kalamen:
